Control of the ATF level in an automatic transmission

Continuous check

The automatic transmission is filled with synthetic liquid under the name Automatic Transmission Fluid. This liquid serves as lubricant means, and also for management of hydraulic pressure in a transmission. That it met the put requirements, ATF has to be checked and have designation of "Dexron" (with the subsequent control number). Incorrectly chosen liquid can cause the damage of a transmission which is not subject to repair!

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. When checking ATF has to have working temperature that approximately corresponds to a trip on 10 km. The amount of liquid changes depending on temperature. In a cold state controlled level is too low, after a long trip the too high.
  2. To put the car on the parking brake, to install the transmission handle on situation "P", to leave the engine to idle.
  3. To extend the ATF probe located in the direction of the movement at the left behind from the engine. He can be learned on the handle. It is necessary to wipe it only absolutely dry and not leaving fibers rag.
  4. To insert the probe and once again to extend it. The amount of liquid between the top and lower mark makes 0,23 l.
  5. Between both markings transparent ATF has to be visible. Marking on a tip of the probe is intended only for measurement when filling in case of replacement of ATF.
  6. Before ATF it was always transparent and painted in light-red color. Now liquid which in use can be painted in black-brown color is applied.
  7. If ATF on the extended probe smells as ashes, so there is some damage of a transmission.
  8. At too low level of liquid ATF cannot add simply, it is necessary to check a transmission for existence of a leak. You have to entrust necessary works on sealing to a workshop.
  9. Too high level of liquid can speak damages of laying between planetary transfer and the drive of the bridge.
  10. To check oil level in the bridge drive.
  11. If there is not enough oil, it is necessary to carry out new sealing of both knots in a workshop and to replace ATF.
  12. If oil level is in the drive of the bridge at the normal level, in this case surplus of ATF simply suck away from an automatic transmission. Too high ATF level can also lead to damages of a transmission.
