Frost resistance check

The special device – the areometer is necessary for you for check of frost resistance of cooling liquid. It measures the specific weight of liquid. Because of various means of protection from corrosion specific the weight of additives are not identical to protection against freezing. For safety it is worth taking away also the admission of 2 — 3 °C.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To gather a little cooling liquid from a broad tank in the areometer.
  2. The areometer plunges on different depth depending on the specific weight of liquid.
  3. On a scale it is possible to see, up to what temperature protection against freezing is enough.
  4. Some of devices for determination of frost resistance are supplied with an arrow which specifies frost resistance degree.

In drawing it is shown how for determination of frost resistance concentration of cooling liquid is defined by the device.

Control of concentration of antifreeze

In most cases it appears that concentration of cooling liquid is already insufficient. Then it is necessary to add a little means from freezing; by rough calculations about 1/4 l on each 10 °C norms are lower.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To remove the lower protection of a motor compartment (the head Elementy of a body).
  2. To substitute any capacity under the car.
  3. To open a drain stopper below on a radiator or to pick up the lower phone on a radiator, to lower 1 — 2 l of cooling liquid.
  4. Again to establish a tube or without pressing to tighten a stopper.
  5. To add the corresponding quantity of undiluted means from freezing and to add collected cooling liquid from capacity.
