Malfunctions of the fan of the cooling system

Except the jammed thermostat and the torn maple belt, the faulty fan of the cooling system, however only during the long work on single turns can become the reason of too high temperature of cooling liquid. But the faulty fan should not mean the end of a trip:

  • After the engine cooled down, it is possible to go to the next workshop on average turns and at rather fast speed. Thus it is necessary to watch the indicator of temperature and a control bulb.
  • Operation of the engine on single turns and a slow driving can be deadly to the engine. Thus practically does not pass the cooling air through a radiator. If it is necessary to go further at a low speed, it is better to begin immediately searches of the reasons of malfunctions and if necessary "to bypass" a thermoswitch.

Search of malfunctions

Illustrations show a thermoswitch of function of turning on of the fan of the cooling system after termination of work of the engine, at the 4-cylinder engine, at the 5-cylinder on the right at the left.


  1. For a start it is necessary to check the corresponding safety lock in the additional block of the relay under a control panel at the left. (head Body electrical system).
  2. If it as it should be, separate the thermoswitch plug.
  3. Connect both contacts in a wire tip a wire slice.
  4. At the two-level thermostat it is necessary to connect all three shtekerny uvulas.
  5. If the fan at the included ignition starts working, it means that the thermoswitch excluded from an electric chain is faulty (on test).
  6. For the further movement it is necessary to fix well a wire in plugs and to insulate it an adhesive tape or a plaster in order to avoid short circuit.
  7. If the detachment of a thermoswitch did not lead to success, check the fan relay in the central switchboard (see the head the Body electrical system): if both crossing points of a thermoswitch "are bypassed", at the included ignition contacts in the relay have to is distinctly heard to become isolated.
  8. If it is audible nothing, it is necessary "to bypass" the relay supportive applications. For this purpose to connect uvulas of the plug of the relay of plugs 30 and 87 a wire slice (an office paper clip) and to insert the relay.
  9. The fan of the cooling system has to start working now and at the switched-off ignition. If it occurred, so the relay is faulty.
  10. The wire crossing point can remain in an extreme case established and at the movement. After end of a trip it needs to be removed.
  11. If and in this case did not follow any reaction, check the fan motor:
  12. To disconnect a wire tip at the engine of the fan and to lay instead from contact of a red-black wire an auxiliary wire to a positive conclusion of the accumulator. Shtekerny connection of a brown wire needs to be connected directly to a negative conclusion.
  13. If the krylchatka still does not rotate, so the fan engine is faulty – it is necessary to replace.
  14. If the fan started working, it is necessary to check the relay (see the head the Body electrical system), tips of wires, and also all cable connections from a thermoswitch and the fan.
  15. You can continue bravely the movement even with the fan powered directly from the battery. Auxiliary conducting should be laid so that there was no short circuit.
  16. In the models equipped as appropriate the second step of the fan or the device for turning on of the fan after termination of work of the engine receives food through a red-blue wire. For check of this step of the fan connect "+" a wire to a red-blue wire of shtekerny contact of the engine.

Removal of the fan of the cooling system

The fan of the cooling system needs to be removed from a radiator together with the back protection cover of a radiator – so-called tsargy the fan:


  1. Models with 4-cylinder engines: to turn out fixing bolts above on a fan tsarga.
  2. To separate the plug from the engine of the fan and to disconnect a plait of wires.
  3. To extend a tsarga from arms at bottom edge.
  4. Models with 5-cylinder engines: to remove a broad tank with cooling liquid. Hoses remain connected.
  5. To weaken four fixing bolts on a tsarga.
  6. To disconnect plugs on the fan engine.
  7. To take out a tsarga together with the fan engine.
  8. Models with 6-cylinder engines: removal is made as at the 4-cylinder engine, however wires to fan engines below on the left longeron have to be disconnected from "weight" or from a resistor payment.
  9. For this purpose to remove the lower protection of a motor compartment (the head Elementy of a body).
  10. All models: for separation of the engine and a tsarga to weaken three fixing nuts.
