Drum brake mechanism On the front-wheel Audi 80 models which are let out till October of 92 g (which are not equipped with ABS) on the back bridge there are drum brake mechanisms. On this version of the brake mechanism two brake shoes nestle on an internal surface of a drum the piston of the brake cylinder (it is located between the top ends of brake shoes). Thanks to an arrangement of brake shoes in the drum brake mechanism used in Audi 80 (the brake Simplex mechanism – one brake cylinder with two pistons) one of two brake shoes acts in a self-amplifying way. It means that this brake shoe because of rotation of a wheel nestles on the brake drum in certain limits spontaneously that reduces effort to pedals. In Audi 80 (at advance) the front brake shoe works spontaneously. On a slang of experts it is called as primary block or an active brake shoe. Back is called respectively as a secondary block or a passive brake shoe. Self-regulating drum brake mechanism Drum brake mechanisms should not be adjusted.
